7 Ways to Brighten Your Life When the Days Get Shorter
When the days get short, it’s easy to fall into a negative mindset that can hold you back from making good things happen. It can even exacerbate chronic conditions since our thoughts and words affect us on a cellular level. However, you can do a few simple things to brighten your life when the weather turns dreary:
Buy Yourself Flowers
Flowers are a natural mood booster that smell amazing. Even if you don’t have the budget for a full bouquet, buying yourself one at the grocery store can help boost your spirits. You can also try planting a flower garden, having an indoor flowering plant or even giving a friend a plant as a thoughtful gift.
Spend Time With Friends
Seeing a friend can really cheer you up, so schedule some quality time to catch up or invite a group of your favorite people over for dinner. You can even make it a point to call or text your friends regularly. This will remind you that they’re there for you and that you care about them. We are a reflection of the 5 people we spend the most time with, so chose carefully.
Exercise
Taking regular physical activity can release your body’s natural mood-boosting chemicals. You could join a yoga class, dance class or just go for a walk or run. The fall and winter seasons are a great time to start a new fitness habit.
Eat Something Healthy
Eating healthy can make a huge difference to your mood. It’s important to maintain a balanced diet and avoid too much sugar or unhealthy fats, but if you’re having a bad day, it’s okay to treat yourself to some delicious warm tea in your favorite flavor.
Listen to Some Uplifting Music
Putting on your favorite tunes is a great way to lift your mood. Whether you choose a relaxing classical piece or some fun dance hits, your mood will improve instantly.
Play a Game
Getting involved with a board game or playing solitaire on your phone can be a great way to get some mental exercise and socialize at the same time. If you’re feeling particularly low, you can use sticky notes to leave yourself uplifting messages or even spread some joy and leave them for others to find!
Plan Something to Look Forward To
It’s important to have something to look forward to, especially during the dark and cold winter months. It can be a big trip to a warm destination or a fun hobby, but it can also be as simple as planning to meet up with friends later this week or booking tickets to a show.
My Favorite Way To Deal With Gloomy, Dark Days
One of the most forgotten ways to uplift spirits are pure, clean essential oils. There are hundreds of single oils that are helpful as well as blending them together in a diffuser or room spray. It’s up to our individual preferences as to which specific essential oils appeal to us, but for a energy boost, I love putting together bergamot, spearmint and orange. Citrus essential oils are uplifting and energizing but should be used with caution when going out into the sunlight. There is a plethora of info on the power of essential oils, inside the HeartsofWellness.com/portal and we meet every month to empower you!
